Best Sandwiches in Santiago Chile

Chileans love sandwiches. So much so, that if you asked a Santiago resident what the national food of Chile is, they'd likely respond by saying either the Completo (a hot dog with condiments, especially smashed avocado, piled high on top) or the Barros Luco (a grilled beef and melted cheese sandwich named for a past-president of the country). In light of the Chilean obsession with sandwiches, we've compiled a photo gallery with images of some of the city's favorite sandwiches and where to find them.

The Churrasco at Elkika Ilmenau
The classic Chilean sandwich, the Churrasco, is a Philly Cheesesteak on steroids. Juicy grilled slices of sirloin steak with your choice of ingredients. If you want to show your Chilean personality, make sure the toppings include some mashed avocade and lots of creamy mayo. Charcarero Sandwich at Fuente Mardoqueo
The Chacarero is a sandwich that's apparently a proprietary Chilean invention. Churrasco with 1000 Island Dressing at Klein Kneipe
A kneipe is the German equivalent of a pub. Although a kneipe in Germany typically doesn't offer food, the Santiago versions often offer hand-held foods like meat and sausage sandwiches. We were intrigued by the juicy churrasco sandwich at Santiago's Klein Kneipe drenched in a Thousand Island Dressing. Bar Liguria is a fun Italian taverna-inspired restaurant with several locations in Santiago. Lunch Special Lobster Roll at Ambrosía Bistro
Leave it to Santiago's trendy, upscale gourmet bistro, Ambrosia Bistro, to create something you won't find elsewhere in Santiago, a great version of a classic New England Lobster Roll, the decadent North American classic. Plateada con Palta at Sublime
Plateada is a Chilean pot roast, where fattier cuts of beef are braised until tender. Pile the beef on a marraqueta roll and you have one of the favorite sandwiches in Santiago, the Plateada Sandwich. Peruvians rival Chileans when it comes to the obsession with sandwiches. The famed sandwich shop chain from Lima, La Lucha, is now open in Santiago's Costanera Center in the food court. Pollo Amistoso Sandwich at La Sanguchera
The shopping mall, Costanera Center, features an entire floor dedicated to restaurants. Everything from high-end steakhouses to sandwich shops. La Sanguchera creates wonderful, reasonably priced sandwiches in a fast-food setting.
