I can't speak for every culture, but Americans, Canadians, Brits, and Aussies typically enjoy breakfast with eggs, a rarity in many parts of Latin America. Luckily, Mexicans also appreciate eggs for breakfast, offering a diverse range of options in Mexico City, from chilaquiles to Eggs Benedict.
During my recent gastronomic exploration of Mexico City, I sampled breakfast dishes ranging from chilaquiles to Eggs Benedict at various establishments, including the renowned St. Regis. My expectations were surpassed at the St. Regis Terraza Restaurant, boasting one of the city's best breakfasts with breathtaking views and impeccable service.
The rooftop terraza offers stunning views of the Fountain of Diana and Paseo de Reforma, complemented by elegant décor and bilingual staff. Opting for an à la carte option, I enjoyed a traditional Huevo Motuleños, perfectly fried with a light red salsa, accompanied by peas, ham, and slices of cooked plantains.
The meal was further enhanced by delicious caraway seed toast and creamy butter, perfectly complementing the flavorful breakfast. Despite the ritzy setting, prices were surprisingly reasonable, with the plate of eggs priced at a modest US$10 and coffee at US$3.50.
I look forward to returning to the St. Regis Terraza for breakfast, and possibly lunch, in the near future, appreciating the culinary excellence and picturesque ambiance.
