La Pescadería is a seafood restaurant chain with at least three (and possibly four) locations in Mexico City, allegedly specializing in seafood. We’re not really sure about locations or hours because this incompetently managed chain of restaurants has a broken link to their website. In the photo slide, you can see what we saw when we attempted to visit their website. We’d take the time to get the details about hours of operation if the restaurant was really worth a visit.

Décor is boring and bit dated. Worn furnishings.

Service? White apron-clad male waiters in light blue button-down Oxford cloth shirts with the the restaurant and Corona logo on the offering lackadaisical and inattentive service. There were periods when there were no waiters watching the dining room. When they were in the dining room they were chatting with each other as you see in the photo.

For an appetizer, I had the Crab Empanada. More cheese than seafood. Then the Gobernador (mixed seafood) taco. Better, but not much better than the empanada. Small pieces of seafood, especially shrimp, appeared to be frozen. We improved the taste slightly by squeeze of lime juice and a little hot sauce. Something the cooks should have considered.

The fish stew had a tomato base broth. It was okay. But not much seafood flavor in the stock. The fish was chewy, some pieces rendered inedible from being overcooked. The small portions of crab you see were hard-shell and basically inedible. The oyster had to be cut with a knife and was tasteless. The shrimp were slightly overcooked, but not as bad as the fish. The only enjoyable element in the stew was the octopus that was surprisingly, not the least bit chewy. But there were only two small tentacles in what I was served.

They’re celebrating the sixth anniversary at Lerma Location? That’s hard to believe in light of the low quality of the seafood served and the lapses of execution in the kitchen. We’re not the only ones unimpressed with this seafood chain. It scores a dismal 2.5 stars on Yelp!

Barely average! Only visit this place if you have no other options.
