Deli El Mayor
In a Nutshell
Rooftop terrace overlooking the excavation of the Templo Mayor with a limited menu of salads and sandwiches. Food and service OK. View is great.

One of our favorite places to enjoy breakfast or weekend brunch is at El Mayor. But there was a long wait for a table at noon on a Saturday so we opted for lunch at Deli El Mayor, on the terrace adjoining the main restaurant.
The main restaurant and the more casual Deli El Mayor are located on the rooftop of an old building overlooking the archaeological excavation of the Templo Mayor. It is a great setting for a meal, morning, noon or night. We always recommend this restaurant to tourists, but it’s also a great place for locals to escape the doldrums of the local neighborhood haunts they frequent.
The Deli El Mayor offers a limited menu of salads and sandwiches. I had the guacamole and chips and a pancetta and cheese panini. Both were good and reasonably priced. Service wasn’t as attentive as in the main restaurant but was acceptable and the young waitress was friendly.
But the food isn’t the main objective for coming to Deli El Mayor. It’s the superior ambiance and the view of this historic portion of the city that make Deli El Mayor one of Ollio O’s favorite lunch spots in Mexico City.
