In a Nutshell

Debbie & Peponne's waffle was good but I’d have been more happy with a standard waffle, topped with creamy butter and syrup. The way mom used to do it.

Sounds like an unlikely couple doesn’t it? We’re not sure whether Debbie and Peponne are real people are just a clever name. We could have asked. But we didn’t.

But what we do know is that this restaurant, which opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 11 p.m. (closes at 8 p.m. on Sundays) serves a full range of what’s billed as healthy food.

The décor is nice. Sort of a modern day loft meets Aunt Bernice’s kitchen.

Pleasant enough. There were some issues with the Wi-Fi at first, but with a little effort I was connected. Service was very good.

We were at D&P on a Tuesday morning. We usually opt for something with eggs, as a breakfast with eggs is a bit rare in many parts of South America. But there are plenty of places to find eggs for breakfast in Mexico City so we decided to try something a little more rare in these parts, a Belgian waffle.

The waffle was a bit unusual. The batter was sort of a cake batter. Sweet and spongy like a cake and had the color of banana bread. It was topped with some whipped cream and a small assortment of fresh berries. A tiny pitcher of maple syrup accompanied the waffle. And the nature of the batter prevented it from getting crispy.

It was pretty good but I’d have been happier with a standard waffle, topped with creamy butter and syrup. The way mom used to do it. Slightly crisp on the outside, steaming and soft inside.

But that’s as much a matter of personal preference as anything.

The cappuccino was a big ol’ honkin’ cup full of coffee. Not the best I’ve had in Mexico City but acceptable.

There are multiple locations. A nice place. A bit pricey.
