U.S. based steakhouse chain Capital Grille offers prime aged steaks, seafood and burgers. First-class service in a sophisticated ambience. The burger’s delicious but it’s twice the cost of many burgers in the city that are just as tasty.

The service was good. And the prices are slightly less at Cancino than Café Toscano. And of course, you have to give it extra points for the plentitude of French bulldogs in the audience.

Capital Grille’s franchise location in Mexico City offers highest-quality steaks and seafood, albeit with a hefty price-tag. It’s “the” place in CDMX to entertain clients.

This dining experience was so bad, in fact, that we’re adding Nicos to our list of overrated restaurants in Mexico City. It can proudly join Maximo Bistrot, and Biko on that list.

Grüner Hof Biergarten is Mexico City’s take on a German beer garden. A unique menu with food from all over the world. Fabulous open-air rooftop location. From pretzels to American-style BBQ. From corny dogs to fish & chips. A unique take on the iconic beer garden, well executed. A variety of cocktails and artisanal beer. They even German Hofbräu on tap.

Papa Bill’s is Mexico City’s most notable sports bar and restaurant that isn’t Hooters. The menu is loaded with American and Mexican sports bar classics, from hot wings to tacos.

Fiebre de Malta with locations in Polanco and Cuauhtémoc (Río Lerma), offers the widest variety of beer in Mexico City, accompanied by good food and service. A beer lover’s paradise.

Hooters in Mexico City serves the same iconic hot wings and has the same trademark service as the 460 plus other locations worldwide. The entire package is good enough to land Hooters on our list of Top Picks for gastropubs in Mexico City. The chicken sandwich also made Top Picks status on our Best Sandwich in Mexico City list.

La Unica has a nice ambiance, good food and friendly, attentive service. It’s a great place to watch the trendy crowd come and go. A bit expensive though.

Casa Portuguesa stands out as our top pick for Sunday brunch, thanks to its delightful terrace overlooking the park, impeccable service, and extensive selection of breakfast offerings.

Eno lives up to its good reputation. Pleasant ambiance. Varied menu with reasonable price. Hard to beat the place for breakfast.

Rooftop terrace overlooking the excavation of the Templo Mayor with a limited menu of salads and sandwiches. The food and service are acceptable but the view can’t be beat. Equally good for cocktails.

Rooftop restaurant overlooking the excavation of the Templo Mayor. Excellent service. Great food. Tortillas and salsas made on the spot by Tia Maria.
by Ollie O | Oct 27, 2016
Ojo de Agua mphasizes fresh ingredients, offering a variety of traditional Mexican breakfasts. Excellent chilaquiles including an egg. Good prices too.

Fontina Trattoria is not your stereotypical Italian restaurant. It’s tastefully decorated with good food and service in a family-friendly setting. All at the best prices in town. Pizza, pasta and more.

Cute and contemporary. Coffee from small producer in Vera Cruz. Sit down or take it to go from both Cuauhtémoc and Condesa locations. Espresso or brewed. Take your pick. Limited food items. Pan dulce and a few sandwiches. Our favorite quick-fix café in Cuauhtémoc.

Spin-off of popular market/restaurant, Delirio, with an “order and take it with you” format. Good coffee and accompaniments. Even better prices.

Anatol, nestled discreetly within the Las Alcobas luxury hotel in Polanco, offers an exquisite dining experience marked by refined elegance and impeccable service. Despite its lack of widespread publicity, the restaurant captivates with its sophisticated decor, blending sleek neutral tones with tasteful art and floral arrangements to create a welcoming ambiance. Amaya is a more casual version of chef Jair Tellez’s Meretoro in Condesa. Ambiance is pleasant. Service was good. But unlike the flawless execution on our recent visit to Merotoro, there were multiple errors in execution on the entree course we were served at Amaya.

Debbie & Peponne’s waffle was good but I’d have been more happy with a standard waffle, topped with creamy butter and syrup. The way mom used to do it. Slightly crisp on the outside, steaming and soft inside.
by Ollie O | Sep 22, 2016
True, the prices are pretty low. And the service was adequate. But bad food, even if free, is not a value.

Nobu in Polanco impresses with its exquisite design and decor, accompanied by exceptional service. Renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa elevates Japanese cuisine to gourmet heights, as evidenced by standout dishes like the Sea Bass in Dry Miso. While some offerings, like the sashimi, may fall short of expectations, Nobu’s overall dining experience remains memorable and worthy of praise.

A first-rate little restaurant with heart, soul, and good food specializing in food accompanied by raclette, a melted Swiss cheese. Chilaquiles with eggs and molletes for breakfast, sandwiches and salads.
by Ollie O | Sep 13, 2016
The decor is not quite right, but not as gaudy as Dulce Patria. Service staff seemed a bit confused and flustered. That didn’t really affect service after the first course however. The food was surprisingly good.
by Ollie O | Sep 13, 2016
It’s as cute as a button inside. Has a few tables out on the sidewalk to enjoy that beautiful Mexico City weather. They do the coffee right. 100% Oaxocan beans, with a mild roast but plenty of rich of flavor.
by Ollie O | Sep 13, 2016
Service was top-notch with an army of waiters scurrying about on the terrace attending to every request. The WIFI worked flawlessly.

Maison Kayser, the international French Bakery and Restaurant chain, serves a wide variety of menu items including many breakfast items, sandwiches, crepes and French classics for lunch and dinner like Coq au Vin and Beef Bourguignon. Wanting something other than chilaquiles or huevos Rancheros for breakfast. It’s your lucky day.
by Ollie O | Sep 12, 2016
Cáfe that only sells coffee in paper cups. But they have 12 varieties of coffee using beans from all over the world. Ambiance and service are lacking.
by Ollie O | Sep 12, 2016
Pretty darn good breakfast. The coffee is good, although coffee aficionadas will be saying it just doesn’t compare to Chiquitito Café.

A comfortable ambiance, good service, and a creative menu put Hotel Carlota near the top of the list for upscale casual dining.
by Ollie O | Sep 5, 2016
Gourmet quality food in a casual setting. Always busy and buzzing. Almost as good for people watching as it is for dining.
by Ollie O | Oct 21, 2015
Not flashy. Not trendy. Just well executed and creative Mexican food at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Consistent quality and service make El Cardenal the place you “go back to” in Mexico City.
by Ollie O | Sep 29, 2015
No need to spill that street taco on your Gucci loafers. Take it indoors to a fast casual dining room setting. Tacos, hauraches and other Mexican street fare with a variety of fresh condiments to pile on top. A meal for under US$5. A super value.

Fresh, local and unique ingredients, a fusion of Italian and Mexican influence, prepared and served in an an unassuming restaurant, is the calling card of Chef Elena Regadas. Don’t let the humble surroundings deceive you. Rosetta is top of the list for lunch or dinner in Mexico City’s Roma Norte.
by Ollie O | Sep 28, 2015
Meroto’s minimalist, yet warm and inviting ambiance, superb execution of modern Mexican fusion, and first-class service deserve praise. The dark and murky appearance of most the dishes belies the beauty that lies beneath that dark shroud.

Located on Rio Lerma in Cuauhtémoc, Baja stands out among the diverse dining landscape with its fusion of trendy decor and distinctive personality. Unlike neighboring venues like Hooters or Papa Bill’s, Baja maintains a soulful ambiance while offering a versatile dining experience across two floors and a rooftop terrace. With attentive service from a youthful staff and a diverse menu featuring innovative dishes alongside classics like the Garlic Shrimp Caesar Salad, Baja earns its reputation as a top casual dining spot in the area, despite its early closing times.
