Nibelungengarten

If you can say the name of this place without stumbling you must be German. German or not, everybody loves sausages and beer, and that’s exactly what this place serves.

German beer, you say? Wheat beer, Weizenbier, Dopplebock, and Dunkle from thirteen different German brewers. If you’re a devout Mexican patriot I suppose you could order a Corona. But eating German food and drinking a Corona beer is something like eating a taco with martini. Just not quite right.

They not only have half a dozen or so different German sausages, they have a whole menu full of traditional German dishes like wiener schnitzel and sauerbraten and a full range of German side dishes, including, German potato salad and spaetzle.

The décor won’t win any awards. It’s pretty much a dive custom designed for patrons that drink beer by the bucket and eat meat in animal casings.

Service was admirable. Waiter was helpful.

This restaurant is located off the beaten path out on the south side of Mexico City. Not a likely spot for tourists, but expats and locals have no good excuse not to give the beer and food at Nibelungergarten a try.
