Osaka\u2019s been at the top of the Nikkei heap for well over a decade and was the first Nikkei restaurant to go international with franchised restaurants in a handful of Latin American cities. The Osaka restaurants in both Buenos Aires and Santiago, Chile have met with great success.<\/p>\n<p>There are two Osaka locations in Lima. One at the Polo Club and one in the heart of San Isidro on Pardo y Aliaga. Of all the restaurants to which the Nikkei tag can be pinned, Osaka\u2019s San Isidro restaurant is head and shoulders above the others in terms of restaurant design and d\u00e9cor. It\u2019s the largest of all the Nikkei restaurants in the city with a large dining room and sushi bar, a large bar area for cocktails and a pleasant outdoor terrace with an exotic ambiance.<\/p>\n<p>The d\u00e9cor is sleek and sophisticated. <\/p>\n<p>The service is equally impressive. For my money, the restaurant provides the highest level of service in the genre, although the service at both Toshi and Matsuei was also top-notch on my latest visit to both.<\/p>\n<p>The menu is creative with a heavier emphasis on non-Japanese elements than you\u2019ll find at both Matsuei and Hanzo, which have menus that are distinctly more traditional-Japanese.<\/p>\n<p>The cuisine at Osaka is similar to Maido in this respect, both restaurants offering near-flawless execution of a unique fusion-cuisine. That said, you\u2019re more likely to have your nigiri served on a ceramic plate at Osaka as opposed to weathered wood or a stone slab which seems to be preferred method of presentation at Maido. So, if you\u2019re one of those that prefers fine china or porcelain over plating on tree trunks and rocks, Osaka\u2019s the better choice.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s also a difference in ambiance. The restaurant d\u00e9cor is clearly more upscale and sophisticated at Osaka.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the better d\u00e9cor and service, you\u2019ll pay exceedingly more for your meal at Maido due to the higher demand for tables resulting from excessive over-hype. You\u2019ll pay about 40% more for similar meal because of the hype and you\u2019ll have to make your reservation about two months in advance to earn a spot at a table.<\/p>\n<p>If that type of overpriced dog and pony show is what you like, so be it. But for an arguably better meal in a clearly better ambiance at an exceedingly better price, Osaka\u2019s the better choice.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Coming Brewpub
