If there’s one café in Lima that gets it all right, that attends to every minute detail, and that makes having a cup of coffee and a waffle a special event, it’s surely Café de Lima. Strategically located to be easily accessible from both Miraflores and San Isidro, Café de Lima occupies a large free-standing building on Angamos Oeste with a large indoor dining area, that includes an upstairs space utilized for special events, and a fully-covered open-air terrace that’s flooded with light at the back of the building. The space is well designed, and simply, but very tastefully decorated, including three large wall murals created by the hand of Jade Rivera, one of the most talented street-artists in the world.

The furnishings, although not Danish in design, have that Danish look and feel to give warmth to the space, despite the otherwise contemporary personality of the restaurant.

The menu is a fantastic example of utilizing local cuisine and ingredients yet adding the international flare that Lain American locals are yearning for.

For breakfast the options are near-limitless. Breads, pastries and coffee for those in a continental mood. French omelets for those that speak with French accent. Eggs done about any way you want them. And, to round out the menu, a great bowl of waffles and fruit or banana pancakes.

Sandwiches and empanadas are available at both breakfast and lunch. The breakfast items are removed in the afternoons and evenings, at which time rice and quinoa stir-fries, pasta dishes, pizzas and salads are added to the menu-mix.

Although the sandwich section of the menu is lacking the imagination that the remainder of the menu possesses, the sandwiches are still good, with fresh-baked bread and plenty fresh ingredients stuffed in between those slices of bread on each sandwich.

Service can be inconsistent and slow sometimes. But rarely so slow as to become annoying.
Take notice that there is no separate dinner menu. You’ll be limited to the sandwich and salad-oriented menu during the evening hours, too.

But for a quick casual meal for breakfast or lunch, Café de Lima is one of the best options in the city.
