In a Nutshell

Original Coffee Roasters is a casual gourmet restaurant posing as a specialty coffee-shop. Yes. The coffee’s great and the ambiance pleasant. But it’s the food that’s the real star.

Original Green Roasters was a surprise. A pleasant surprise. When I go to a specialty coffee-shop like this one, I usually go expecting to find a barista or two churning out some killer cups of coffee, with varying degrees of quality of sandwiches, croissants and, perhaps, desserts sitting on a display shelf.

This one’s different. Very different. Original Coffee Roasters should change the sign out front to read, “Original Casual Restaurant with Italian Food that also Serves Great Coffee It Roasts In-House”. That name is way more accurate.

This is a great little restaurant with a limited menu of Italian dishes that’s executed with finesse in a way that elevates it to gourmet status.

With a short but poignant menu with the type of food that people really like to eat, I can almost guarantee you’re going to feel good about this place.

They have breakfast. I mean a real breakfast. Not a croissant and a cup of coffee. I’m talking, Eggs Benedict done about five or six unique ways with your choice for the type of bread they put those perfectly poached eggs on. Maybe you’re in the mood for something sweeter, like French toast. That’s okay. They’ve got that, too.

They offer some of the best sandwiches in the city. Super main-course dishes, too. It’s plainly evident that the cook in the kitchen obviously cares about what’s coming out of the kitchen. Fresh ingredients. No cutting corners.

And, yes. They have coffee. Some of the best coffee in the world, roasted in small batches onsite. You might even be able to watch them roast a batch of beans.

Let’s sum it up.

This is one of the best places to eat, or just drink coffee, if that’s your bag, in Santiago. It’s not only worth a visit. It demands a visit.
