In a Nutshell

Zanzibar is the perfect destination for an off-the-wall dining experience that pushes the culinary envelope. A truly exotic and unique menu that’s well-executed in a pleasant and fun environment.

Zanzibar defied description as I was attempting to assign a cuisine in our categorization of the restaurant. What exactly is the cuisine at Zanzibar? Well the corn cancha they serve with the cocktails; the ceviche and the causa appetizers are Peruvian. Is the cuisine Peruvian? Well, I’ve never been to a Peruvian restaurant that had a lamb tagine. That’s North African, right? Seafood steamed in banana leaves … That’s southeastern Asian, isn’t it? Well … I finally threw in the towel and clicked all three checkboxes. As a result, almost for almost any cuisine you search for on our site in Santiago … you’ll find Zanzibar somewhere in the list.

And that’s why I like this place. It doesn’t follow any rules except one. The food has to taste good. And it does.

There’s a unique, culturally diverse menu, that’s well executed. It’s slightly pricey but not enough to deter you from returning for another visit.

The décor is as interesting and diverse as the menu. It’s got a teaspoon of pretentious, a half a cup of quirky, and a heavy dash of exotic.

Service is mostly attentive with the occasional “uh-oh, I forgot to turn in your appetizer order”.
I analyzed all the consumer reviews over the past four years. The bulk of any negative comments were from two to three years ago. Almost everything since 2017 was complimentary.

And the few negative comments tended to relate to some unusual occurrence related to a miscommunication on a reservation or the rare bad night of service.

So, if you’re wanting some slightly off-the-wall dining experience that’s brimming with flavor and likely something you’ve never tried, Zanzibar’s got you covered!
