For this Gran Malbec, Terrazas uses some of its best vineyards of the variety, with a base of 40% from Finca Licán, in the Los Chacayes zone, plus 35% from Los Castaños, in Altamira, both in the Uco Valley. The blend is complemented by the vineyards in Las Compuertas, in one of the highest areas of the traditional Luján de Cuyo DO, more than 1,000 meters up. This is a juicy, fruity, electric summary of what the new Mendoza malbec is, removed from the excesses of ripeness and oak of the past, and instead, now shows flowers, tart red fruits, and herbs in a body of fine, needle-like tannins. A delight to drink glass after glass.
