In a Nutshell
Las Violetas is the best little Confitería in Buenos Aires to get a glimpse of what affluent life in Buenos Aires was like in the early 20th century. The building and café’s décor are unequaled in Buenos Aires. Culinarily speaking, not a masterpiece, but a don’t miss this little piece of history.

Las Violetas is, perhaps, the best replication of an early-20th-century Café and Confitería in Buenos Aires. The old building in which this café is located has been restored and is among one of the most impressive pieces of antique architecture in the city, although much of it was replicated.
It’s something every Porteño and visitor to the city should see. It’s almost always busy, regardless of the time of day. The busy vibe just adds to the otherwise impressive ambience.
You don’t really go to Las Violetas for the food. You go for the experience. Although the pastries, which are the restaurant’s speciality, are delicious, bordering on impressive, and I would suppose the little sandwiches on the afternoon tea spreads are acceptable, I wouldn’t plan eating any savory dishes here as part your culinary experience in Buenos Aires.
But to get the feel of the café culture in Buenos Aires, this is the spot. No better place for “afternoon tea” in Buenos Aires.
