In a Nutshell
La Fabrica del Taco serves, as the name implies, tacos. Also Tex-Mex style burritos and quesadillas. Palermo Soho location is a dive. Las Cañitas is a bit more upscale. San Telmo resembles a fast-food restaurant. Tacos, which are fairly authentic, are delicious. Tasty food at a good price.

It’s been three years since I first ate a taco at La Fabrica del Taco in their first location in Palermo Soho. A lot has changed since then. Change of government in Buenos Aires. Change of government in the USA. And La Fabrica del Taco continues to evolve. The original location was barely more than an indoor taco stand. Las Cañitas went a bit more upscale. And now San Telmo has moved in the direction that looks almost like a fast-food restaurant. I think it’s fair to say that all three locations continue to maintain very separate identities.
But the one thing that hasn’t changed much and remain constant in all three locations is the food. They serve tacos, tacos and burritos, accompanied by Corona beer and shots of cheap (as in bad tasting) tequila. Not much variety. But the good news is … What they do is fairly authentic. Except unlike the vendors on the streets in Mexico they’re not likely raising the chickens and pigs for the meat in the tacos in their back yard.
Seriously. These tacos are pretty good. Your choice of tacos al pastor (basically shawarma meat in a Mexican corn tortilla), carnitas (shredded pork), asado (chopped, not ground, beef), or chicken. 69 peso each. They also have burritos stuffed in a much bigger flour tortilla. Tex-Mex quesadillas (Mexican “gringas”) and Guacamole with bagged chips. I’d stick with the tacos if I were you.
Salsas are pretty good. The orange one at the counter packs a punch of zing. I naturally poured a couple of spoonfuls over my tacos.
We’re glad to say that with the better ambience in both Las Cañitas and San Telmo, we’ve updated the rating for La Fabrica del Taco. And this is about as good as it gets in Buenos Aires for tacos. It’s actually approaching authentic. There is no table service. Order at the counter and wait for your name to be called.
