Gran Bar Danzon is arguably the most popular bar in Buenos Aires. I’ve been patronizing this bar, off and on, for close to a decade. It was trendy and happening a decade ago. The crowd is about as close to the “jet-set” as you can get in Buenos Aires, and averages about 35 to 40 years of age. One of the few places you can go and see lots of singles out that’s not a dance club. A mix of foreigners and locals. Everyone dressed nicely. It’s a unique crowd for Buenos Aires.
They make all the fancy cocktails and have a few good artisanal beers. An acceptable wine list.
But what about the food? I’ve eaten sushi on about a dozen occasions and it’s always been fresh and delicious. They have special varieties they’ve concocted and I’ve tried them all. Each one is very good.
But they also have a more standard appetizer and main course menu. Steaks, chops, seafood, and risotto. Gourmet quality food, well executed. Service is very good but I must warn that I’ve always either dined at the bar or at the wine bar at the edge of the restaurant.
The food is good enough to place Gran Bar Danzon in a class with the city’s best restaurants. Even the sushi is, in my opinion, on par with Sushi Club.
Whether wanting a cocktail, sushi or steak, or possibly all three, Gran Bar Danzon is a great choice.
Be advised however, that like the other gastropubs in this category, the energy level is high and the music loud. If that will inhibit your digestion of the sushi, you might want to steer clear of Gran Bar Danzon. Sivela 465, about ten blocks away, might be a better choice.
