Lots of restaurants in Buenos Aires have “pizza” on the menu. Sometimes, the pizza is inedible, like the two pieces I was recently served at one of the city’s more respected old guard pizzerias on Avenida Corrientes, BA’s “pizza row”, Banchero. The dough was so raw I couldn’t eat it. That was likely a blessing.
Others churn out acceptable pizzas. Truth be told, I sort of like the pizzas at Guerrín and El Quartito. And who couldn’t at least be intrigued by the ambience in both of those old school Porteño landmarks I also like the thin-crust pizza I’ve been served a Grappa in Palermo Hollywood.
Well there’s now a new class of pizza in Buenos Aires. The crème de la crème. It’s not authentic pizza from Naples. It’s better. It’s the pizza at Cosi mi Piaci.
When you bear the cost of using the very best ingredients you can find, when you establish a garden to grow the fresh herbs you use in your sauces and as toppings on the pizzas you make, and when you take the time to assure that every detail is attended too in the making of the pizza, you end up with something very special. You end up with the best pizza in Buenos Aires, bar none.
As if having the best pizza in town weren’t good enough, it also is one of the most pleasant places in the city to sit and eat pizza.
The service is better than acceptable. The ambiance makes you want to come back. The pizza makes you want to come back again, and again, and again. That's Cosi mi Piaci!
