In a Nutshell
Cervelar is a large brewpub chain that offers a wide range of craft beers on tap and imported bottled-beer as well. Mostly burgers and hot dogs, although they do have a lunch menu with a wide variety of non-bar food, like salads. Food overall is on par with other chain brewpubs like Antares and much better than the bar-food offered at Patagonia and Berlina.

Cervelar is capitalizing on the craft beer craze with a slightly different approach than the other brewpubs and microbreweries in Buenos Aires. Like On Tap, they don’t brew the beer. Instead, they offer beer on tap from local craft brewers in their rapidly expanding chain of brewpubs. But what distinguishes Cervelar from the other guys is that they offer a wide array of imported bottled beers, something literally unheard of in Buenos Aires.
They also sell all these imported beers online and deliver to homes through the big metroplex.
They now have twelve bar locations throughout the city.
The food is pretty good for bar food. The burger was one of the best I’ve had. All the burgers are veal which delivers a slightly funkier taste and less fat than a standard beef patty. The bun and the ingredients were fresh. This one ranks right up with the best burgers in the city. And when I ordered it “jugoso” (medium-rare) that’s about how it was delivered.
The hot dog is a “foot-long” style dog. They come dressed a couple of ways. I had the dog with that fake cheese they call “cheddar” and sautéed red peppers and onions. Despite the fake cheese, this dog was pretty good, and long, to boot.
I’ve also had a salad, that by Buenos Aires standards, was very good. Ingredients were fresh.
Overall, the food is good for a bar that concentrates more on what people drink than what they eat. If you’re wanting to do both, it’s a good choice.
