Baum is a small producer of craft beer located in Mar de Plata where they have a sizeable brewery adjoining a brewpub. The gastropub in Buenos Aires is conveniently located a few paces off Fitz Roy on Honduras in Palermo Hollywood.
The restaurant is quite large, with a long bar spanning the depth of the building and plenty of seating at booths and tables on two floors. There’s also a nice outdoor terrace.
Baum brews eight individual beers and ales running the gamut, from an American style golden to a dark, creamy stout and offers them all on tap at the Palermo location.
The menu is of the typical gastropub variety. Sandwiches, burgers, salads, cheese and charcuterie platters, an assortment of bar-style appetizers and about eight full-blown main course. On a recent visit we tried the Porter-braised pork shoulder. It was perfectly cooked, fork-tender with a rich lacquered finish from the reduced braising liquid. It was accompanied by French fries and some lightly caramelized red peppers. The dish was well conceived and executed. Worth ordering on a return visit.
We tried the burger. It was acceptable but nothing more. Not good enough to make it into our list of burger favorites in Buenos Aires.
Service is typically good. The bartenders and waitresses were friendly and informative. Generally, a good place to both eat and enjoy a craft beer to boot.
