Il gran Caruso - Buenos Aires

Having had two bad Italian food experiences in one week I was hoping that the third time would be a charm. So, I decided to give Il Gran Caruso a try.

This place is old school Italian with male waiters. The décor is acceptable. They make good use of recessed and spot lighting to illuminate the table tops and they make good use of mirrors to make the somewhat cramped dining room seem larger than it really is. The rather gaudy chandelier in the entry way is a bit out of place in an otherwise acceptably decorated restaurant.On being seated the waiter brings an assortment of breads with a creamy dip and small bowl of olives for nibbling.They seemed to be pretty proud of their hand crafted raviolis so I ordered the ravioli stuffed with Patagonian braised lamb from their pretty extensive plastic covered menu.

The main course was good but nothing in this restaurant quite compared with La Pecora Nera that we visited a month ago and the prices were similar. But if you’re wanting something in Palermo Hollywood this is probably your best bet for Italian food (other than pizza).

This one doesn’t make our list of favorites but it scores high enough to deserve a review.
