Summary of Review
Outstanding food in stark but tastefully decorated restaurant. Sommelier will show you the wine collection and provide information about the region, the grape variety and vintage of each wine. We really enjoyed this outing and think you will as well.

Restaurant Review for Trova

Looking for a good wine shop that doubles as a sleek and sophisticated restaurant by night? Look no further than Trova. I had walked past this restaurant many times and was impressed with its dramatic façade. Tower glass from floor to ceiling and wall to wall. On one side are the hundreds of wines offered for sale, both over the counter and in the restaurant, displayed in a rack spanning two floors. On the right side the sleek and sparsely decorated restaurant and wine bar.

My friend and I had delayed our visit until a friend from Chile had arrived who is a big wine enthusiast.

Once Tomas was in town we quickly found ourselves in the restaurant to see what it had to offer. We sat upstairs in a secluded room. As I said, the place is sparsely decorated … no paintings on the wall. Just the stark, grey concrete walls and sleek Danish modern furnishings. Very minimalist décor. But clean and simple. Nothing to detracts from the wine and food to follow.

As part of the meal in the restaurant, after you order, you are invited to tour the racks of wine in the display room and one of the sommeliers will provide you with some pointers on selecting the wine.

Once you select the wine a sommelier will uncork it at your table and will provide a short discourse on the wine, its origin and its composition.

Quite an impressive show. To get things rolling I ordered a cheese tray with three varieties. A goat cheese Pecorino, and Pepato and Ligne Noir (both cow’s milk). But before the tray arrived we were offered an <span style=”color: #9e7b2f;”>amuse-bouche</span>. A small cube of polenta, topped with a sundried tomato and basil. It was a delicious little teaser.

The cheeses were equally delicious, each have a very different personality and taste.

One friend ordered a risotto. It was rich and creamy, topped with some small langoustines. Perhaps a tad too al dente for risotto but a truly rich and delicious flavor.

I had the Carrillera de Ternera (veal cheeks). I must confess. They were buttery soft and delicious, bathed in a rich red wine sauce. Absolutely delicious. Sorry, due to a flash malfunction I don’t have a photo of the cheeks. But the plate looked as good as it tasted.

Finally, my other friend has a Bondiola del Cerdo served alongside some rustic new potatoes and plums.

Every dish was executed to perfection save the minor error on the risotto. The cheeks were … heavenly.

Flawless service, an impressive show from the sommelier, and fabulous food in a very beautiful setting. Trova has now earned a spot in my heart as one of the top 10 restaurants in the city. Outstanding. My companions and I all agreed … This was a fantastic outing.
