Review Summary

Volksbier. Average décor, food and service. Creativity score is good because they are only one of a handful of restaurants having the courage to attempt German cuisine.

Restaurant Review for Volksbier - Mexico City

Volksbier made our list of beer and brats restaurants by default. There are only a handful of restaurants in the city where you can get a German beer and a German sausage or two, and Volksbier happens to be one of them.

If you’re a tourist or local or expat living or hanging out in Condesa, you’re close to Volksbier.

Hardly an impressive décor. A few quirky items connecting the place to Germany and on the day I went Volksbier for lunch, the waitress was dressed up like the fräulein on the label of a St. Pauli Girl beer.

They have a sausage plate with a variety of German wieners but I was there for lunch, watching my figure, and opted for a single sausage and a couple of sides.

The potato salad was good. The spätzle was gummy. Not so great. The sausage was overcooked. Way overcooked.

Overall, a horrible showing on execution of German cuisine.

They might want to trade that Mexican cook in the back for someone that knows the meaning of brat and wurst.
