I suppose Germans do many things well. But the first three that come to mind are automobiles, beer and sausages.

You can’t buy a Mercedes Benz at Paulaner Keller. But the other two are right down this restaurant’s alley.

They sort of specialize in the full range of beers from the German brewer, Paulaner. But they do offer two other German imports, and handful of beers from German brewers Schmucker and Hacker. And for those with a Mediterranean urge, three beers from Spanish brewer, Moritz.

A beer without a sausage feeling very lonely. So the Fräulein and Herren serving up your German brewskies can solve that problem by bringing you a sausage to keep your beer company.

For 75 pesos (about US $4) you can have big sausage sandwich with any of their sausages (described below) on a roll with as much mustard and sauerkraut as you schmeer on that thing.

Feeling experimental, order the Wurst Platte and get a healthy portion of each of their four sausages. They serve up a white veal Weisswurst, a Thüringer and Nürnberger Rostbratwurst, and what’s described on the menu as a Schübbling sausage (presumably a Swiss Schüblig sausage). Easily enough for two people, arguably three or four people wanting a small portion.

The casings are scored prior to grilling so the presentation on the platter is impressive. The casings have a nice snap. These are fairly authentic. I preferred the veal sausage I had at Nibelungergarten, but that place is way out in the boon docks so Paulaner Keller is about the best choice if you live in or near Condesa.

There’s nothing striking about the décor or ambiance, but it does have a German feel to it and there are always a few tables of folks guzzling down the German beers and having a great time, adding to the ambiance.

I preferred the ambiance, food and service at Paulaner Keller to what I received at nearby Volksbier.

If you’re in mood for German sausages in the Condesa / Roma area, this is, in our opinion, a very good option.
