In a Nutshell

Hey. They serve Eggs Benedict (sort of) and French Toast. That's reason enough for a visit. Pleasant ambiance. Good service.

It was a holiday in Mexico. We had hoped to have breakfast at the much-praised Fonda Mayora. It was closed. So, two blocks away we saw a nice little restaurant with a menu that indicated it served Eggs Benedict, a variety of omelets, French toast, and a variety of Mexican breakfast standards. We were game to see how they handled the Eggs Benedict.

Breakfast Condesa has a couple of small rooms with about six or seven tables seating around 20 diners, and a terrace out front with another three or four tables. It’s a pleasant atmosphere. The inside rooms are bathed with sunlight from several windows and from the large open entrance.

The furnishings were nice. Service was stellar except for the overcharge mentioned below.

We ordered the Eggs Benedict. The poached eggs were served on two toasted country-style bread slices topped with a fatty ham. The eggs were accompanied by a small tossed salad and a slaw. Not a classic Eggs Benedict, but close enough for government work. The hollandaise sauce was spot on. Just having Eggs Benedict on the menu in Latin America scores extra points.

I carelessly didn’t review the check and got charged for the Salmon Eggs Benedict (which, of course, wouldn’t be a Benedict). We scored them down slightly on service for this error.

Nice breakfast in a very pleasant setting. At 125 pesos for the eggs (although I got charged 140 pesos) the cost is reasonable.

Note: There is quite a bit of confusion about this restaurant and its location in online sources, including Google maps. The restaurant we visited is located at the corner of Nuevo Leon and Ozuluama in Condesa. It is NOT the Breakfast restaurant in Roma Norte on Durango. We are uncertain, at the time of posting this review, as to whether there is a connection between the two restaurants. Additionally, there are some photos on the Facebook page for this restaurant that do not correspond with the restaurant where we had breakfast. We will update this post once we clarify these discrepancies.
