Review Summary
The staff was friendly and attentive. But I can say that about 80% of the restaurants I’ve visited over the past few years. Hardly a reason to go there for breakfast.

In a desperate attempt to find somewhere clean and appealing to have breakfast with eggs we headed over to La Puerta Falsa, in the heart of La Candelaria.

The only seating is three booths upstairs (duck or you’ll hit your head on the rafters) and a row of short stools at a counter along one wall. Cramped. Hardly the kind of place you want to spend the morning sipping coffee and reading the local news.

No menu. It’s written on the wall. A bunch of friendly young waiters practicing their ability to speak English. I was offered the waiter’s order pad as a menu.

I attempted order fried eggs. I received scrambled eggs with “salchita” which apparently means sliced hot dog wieners in Colombia.

Coffee only comes one way. Slightly bitter. No cream or milk to cut it. No artificial sweetener. Just a couple of paper-packs of sugar. I ordered the coffee “completo” which means it comes with some buttered bread.

Most the locals in this joint are ordering hot chocolate “completo” and dipping the buttered bread in that hot chocolate.

This place is mentioned in all the online chatter offering “insider” tips. Hogwash. This place is no different than about 5,000 other little hole in the walls in Bogotá, except for perhaps a sign out front that’s a little more ornate than most.

The staff was friendly and attentive. But I can say that about 80% of the restaurants I’ve visited over the past few years. Hardly a reason to go there for breakfast.

Do yourself a favor. Walk 15 minutes up to Misia for a real breakfast.
