Restaurant Review for Chuchito Perez
Rating: 3.9 stars
Chuchito Perez is one of the new breed of upscale Mexican gastropubs offering an interesting fusion of Mexican, Asian and European cuisine to accompany a full range of cocktails and beers. The décor is minimalist with a Mexican personality. Each location has lots of open-air seating. The chain, at the time of this review, had two locations in Mexico City (Roma Norte and Condesa), Monterrey, Querétero and Cancún.
As might be expected with a chain restaurant or bar, it has a CRA, slightly devoid of soul and personality which will undoubtedly not appeal to those that hate shopping at IKEA or Crate and Barrel.
But if you can endure the “trendy” feel of the place, the abbreviated menu is full of interesting dishes that are typically well-executed. Some consumers, in online reviews, have complained of slow service, so be proactive and take the ComaBeba steps for countering slow service, just to be safe.
The service was acceptable on the day of our visit, but it was late in the evening on a Tuesday night, and the place was almost empty.
I ordered the Betabel Salad. A mix of lettuce, an entire beet cut into quarters, creamy goat cheese (the really soft kind), radishes and onions, with a honey-mustard dressing. The salad was served, drizzled with the dressing, and a small cup of the dressing was served on the side. I like that. This offers those that prefer a bit more dressing on their salad to “have it their way” without having to wait an eternity for the waiter to bring more dressing.
A reminder. This place has a gastropub ambiance that includes loud, up-tempo music, and an odd mix of music videos and video-ads lighting up the dining room and terraza on dozens of flat-screen monitors mounted every few feet along the exterior walls.
If you’re allergic to loud music, you might want to choose some boring alternative.
