Yauss, is quirky, like everything in San Telmo. But quirky in a good way. Good place for breakfast, waffles and eggs. Jury's still out on the tapas.

We chanced upon Yauss in a desperate attempt to find one more restaurant in the heart of San Telmo (other than El Barco Rojo) that we could say some good about. Yauss is a quirky, San Telmo(ish) little restaurant that specializes (sort of) in waffles and Spanish tapas. That’s a bit like specializing in lawn mowing and kite flying. We haven’t tried the tapas or the beer. Although I was tempted to have a beer with my waffle (but that’s another story).

I had a waffle, with a side of scrambled eggs, and a big dollop of organic honey. It was very good. Accompanied by a French-style cappuccino.

The staff was friendly; the quirky ambiance was pleasant (which isn’t always the case with quirky things) and the food quite good. Even the eggs were seasoned and cooked perfectly. Prices were about as expected for the location and quality of the food and service.

Let’s get something straight though. Yes. It’s better than most places in San Telmo. But it is nowhere near the 4.4 stars it gets on Google reviews, nor the 4.5 stars on TripAdvisor.com, most of which were likely posted by friends and family.

That said. There aren’t many places in San Telmo (other than that string of nice restaurants on Caseros between Defensa and Bolivar) we would recommend, but Yauss is worth a visit for breakfast. Jury’s still out on crepes and tapas.
